Christmas in July/August? Yes, Really.

As much as we may hate it, retailers are advertising earlier than ever for the upcoming fall/winter holidays because of the economy still being in question. Since they're doing it, it's something all of us online sellers need to think about (again, as much as we may hate it, we… Continue

Happy Canada Day

I just wanted to add a quick note of greeting to our Canadian friends - Happy Canada Day! Canada Day (French: Fête du Canada), formerly Dominion Day (French: Le Jour de la Confédération), is Canada's national day, a federal statutory holiday celebrating the anniversary of the 1 July… Continue

For a Truly Good Laugh

I don't generally like to watch video on the computer, but here's a clip that a friend insisted I watch, and I've actually watched several times and laughed myself helpless over a couple of times. It's from… Continue

Outstanding Listing of Vintage Resources

One of the very nice people on Twitter, Archivia, posted a blog with a fabulous list of vintage everything resources, which I thought I would post here while I was thinking about it. In the meantime, MyBookBarn or Comycgirl, could you please start a category in the resources section for general vintage resources? When you do, I'll post this URL in that resources area. A million thanks in advance! Continue

Customer Vs. Customer

I recently had an exchange with a customer that left me rattled. She purchased an item (of medium price), I confirmed her purchase, gave the shipping information, and thanked her all via e-mail. She then sent me an e-mail that essentially said that she knew that I would probably provide her poor service and poor product, but that she was going to take a chance on me anyway. She then went on to leave neutral feedback on eCrater indicating that she would not leave me feedback until she had had a c… Continue

Getting the Feedback You Deserve

I found this article in an e-mail newsletter that I've receive from Auctivia for years. It's usually all about E-Bay and this article on feedback is all about the E-Bay system. I've included the link to the article if you wish to read the whole thing. In the meantime, there were a lot of relevant comments about getting the feedback you deserve (and heading off potential problems at the pass) that I'm excerpti… Continue

The New Tab for Google Product Feed Status

I checked the status tab for the Google feed status and it indicated my feed had failed (they do a Google base feed now twice a week, which is great). I was a tad concerned and went over to the community board to check this out and found this informative exchange and found it to be a pretty good explanation. Click this link to read further. Every Place I Sell

Every Place I Sell seems to be an interesting slant on places to list our stores. It caters in particular to those with multiple stores and is a way for potential customers to compare stores and prices for each seller. I signed up, which was very easy, and appears will take about 24 hours for approval. Anyhow, it looks really good and doesn't involve any product or RSS uploads at all. Continue

Inserting New Categories/Subcategories Within Existing Categories

I like to keep my categories and subcateories alphabetical, but basically have found over time that I have to essentially decategorize all my products within a given range, create the new category or subcategory alphabetically, and then go back in and check the new category box in each of my product listings to their new category; this is a huge amount of work. I have searched the FAQs/tutorials on the community boards at eCrater and have found the information on how to create categories and suc… Continue

May Day

While I was going through my e-mails (and reading Cindy's lovely posting with the yellow rose), I realized it was not only Friday, May 1st, but it's also May Day. As a child, my mom and I would make little heart-shaped construction paper baskets with handles, fill them with flowers from our yard, and then we would walk around our neighborhood, slip them on neighbors' doorknobs, ring their bell, and hide and watch them as they got their flowers. Later, we'd take May Day baskets to grandparents an… Continue

What Is Your Experience With Selling Vintage LP Records?

In my apartment community, we have a trading post where residents can leave things that are in good condition for others to take for free. I've gotten some fabulous brand new and vintage items for myself and to sell. In order to appease the trading post gods, I always make sure I leav… Continue

If Your eCrater Store Looks Weird, Don't Worry, Be Happy!

I checked on my store today and was really startled to see the logo gone and the picture replaced by a Christmas swag (some people had a picture of three milk bottles), which when clicked on, invited me to sign up for Google Checkout (which I did ages and ages ago). Anyhow, I went to the main community board and asked for help. The moderator told several of us that eCrater is working on a new advance search mechanism and that storefronts would look weird for awhile, but would soon go back to th… Continue

Comprehensive E-Crater Store Directory

I was cruising through the E-Crater community boards again and found out that one of the members is setting up a comprehensive E-Crater store directory. By replying to his topic, you can have your store listed on this directory for free (evidently - nothing was said about cost or recipr… Continue

Case Studies in Success: Hallmark, Inc.

I am one of those people who like to spend time reading greeting cards for a little lift or laugh, and since I live close to a Walgreen store, I always haunt the Hallmark card aisles to do my reading there. Even in this age of e-mail and e-cards, it is still really wonder… Continue
