Where Smart People Shop!

JJsEUTS

Spring Is Here! Where will you be shopping at for great deals?

Where will you be doing your..ahem.."shopping".

I'm going to start off by hitting every yard sale from here to wherever this Saturday.

Since I have already sold my own clothes, I'll be dual shopping--for me personally and for the store.

What about you?

Hey! Has any one noticed the prices at the G'wills, SAs and other stores in the like are almost the same or close to the sale prices in the brick & mortars?!

Hmmm...I wonder if the resale stores will be putting the b&m outta business, in a way?

Jules43035, said, "I will also mention one yard sale experience I have had this season - I was with a woman who was selling an entire Dept 56 Christmas Village. Before she even gave me a price for the entire lot (they weren't marked), her comment was, "I'm not going to give these away. If they don't sell here, I'll just put them on Craigslist."

I thanked her politely and wished her well with listing them on Craigslist. Of course, I had no expectations that she would "give them away" but she had an interested buyer who was willing to buy the entire lot NOW - she was not putting a value on the time and effort it would take her to photograph and list each individual piece on Craigslist. And even then she had no assurances that they would all sell. I'm interested to know if this (the availability of sites like eBay and Craigslist) have affected your ability to negotiate deals on-site at yard sales. Anyone with a similiar experience?"

You know, in addition to my reply above...I noticed that some of these yard sales prices are competitive as well.

What happened to the days of the shirts for 10 cents a piece, jeans for 50 cents a pair, etc.?

LOL! Did I just tell my age?

GW and SA seems about the same as always, but garage sale prices seem higher. I live in an area that has had major growth last 10 years, new housing means younger residents, seems like all the sales around here are full of baby stuff and home decor from hobby lobby. I chalk up overpriced sales to inexperienced sellers, and those like your lady "I'll list it on c-list". I love to negotiate, but it has a place. If the sale is reasonably priced, go ahead and pay the 25 cents or a buck, like you say, people are trying to pay their bills. If you do want to get something reduced, ask quietly to the person in charge if other shoppers are present, don't ask for the moon, and if they are the non-receptive type, then don't buy it. Also you early birds should probably plan on paying asking price, when things slow down sellers are thinking they better take what they can get. That's what works for me.

Fishing Flea markets are held in the winter. We had tables at a couple of them this winter. It was really good P R.

We've essentially had nothing but cold and rain (Portland, OR), with one or two semi-sunny days, since about February. The last two days have been up in the seventies, but tomorrow we're back down to rain and cold in the fifties, so I think folks are waiting it out until we have steady decent weather to hold garage sales.

I went to my firt 3 yard sales/1 estate sale this weekend. Got some fairly good deals. However, could have been better if I would've have made that estate sale on the first instead of second day.

The one that got away! I went to an estate sale last week. It was the last day and things were 60% off. Didn't buy much but found a teapot and a couple vintage aprons, so worth the stop. Good luck this week.

Well so far to date I have not been hitting the flea markets or yard sales since I am participating in selling at a flea market. Gosh I must be missing out on a lot of good stuff. :( But on the bright side side I am getting rid of a lot of stuff that has not sold on line :)

Hi Barbara, I haven't gone to as many this year and feel I'm missing a lot of good stuff also! I can't wait until Spring to go to more! One of my friends is having success at Flea Markets too.

Hey Jamie, went out today and there were quite a few yard sales. But dratz nothing. I guess I got to them too late and all the good stuff was gone. It happened that I was on my way to the store and there they were almost all in a row, but it was late in the afternoon. Better luck next time and the early bird always catches the worm :)
