Where Smart People Shop!

JJsEUTS

Spring Is Here! Where will you be shopping at for great deals?

Where will you be doing your..ahem.."shopping".

I'm going to start off by hitting every yard sale from here to wherever this Saturday.

Since I have already sold my own clothes, I'll be dual shopping--for me personally and for the store.

What about you?

When Spring hits in the North Country, everyone seems to celebrate with garage sales. The auctions will still be there, but the nice weather brings more buyers...meaning more competition.

They are starting to show up here! A couple last weekend and several signs out today, probably will hit some tomorrow on my lunch break. I found a thrift store last week that is going to be a real regular stop for me. First trip in I got some way cool coffee cups and today I bought 8 vases and I still haven't spent ten bucks. I can sell them in a garage sale and still make money!

good going Marilyn, seems like you found a honey spot... We are going to a church sale tomorrow, crossing eyes and fingers that we find something.

I LOVE church sales! And school sales. I went to a parking lot sale at an elementary school a few years ago, I wish I knew then I was going to be selling stuff, I would have bought a lot more!

This one starts bright and early tomorrow. First one of the season...we are looking forward to it.

I'm up bright and early today. Some start today at 8am. I'm sure to be home by noon. The yard sales here start early but then get too crowded/picked over by 11a.

My coffee is brewing, I'm ready to get started.

Many good finds to all of you "yard-saling" today.

I'm back from a couple of sales. I found for myself...

1 pair of denim capris that no one can fit/not worth selling...waste of $1.00
1 pair of Skechers suede bootshoes, new...25 cents
1 pair of cute plastic wood clog sandals...25 cents
1 cute Regale elliptical wirstbag...50 cents
1 cute gauze multicolor tank babydoll...50 cents

Finding myself some clothes and shoes...priceless

Yard sales - what fun! And this year, because of all of the uncertainty with the economy, is likely to mean more sales and even more higher-quality items for purchase because so many are unfortunately in need of cash. For those of us in a position to buy, it should be a great season - although I suspect there will also be more shoppers so head out bright and early to scoop up those treasures!

Since we're having this discussion, would anyone want to share some of their yard sale tricks, tips and techniques on how to make the most of our time and effort "yard saling"? There are some obvious ones like arrive early, bring lots of cash (especially small bills) and be prepared to dicker.

I will also mention one yard sale experience I have had this season - I was with a woman who was selling an entire Dept 56 Christmas Village. Before she even gave me a price for the entire lot (they weren't marked), her comment was, "I'm not going to give these away. If they don't sell here, I'll just put them on Craigslist."

I thanked her politely and wished her well with listing them on Craigslist. Of course, I had no expectations that she would "give them away" but she had an interested buyer who was willing to buy the entire lot NOW - she was not putting a value on the time and effort it would take her to photograph and list each individual piece on Craigslist. And even then she had no assurances that they would all sell. I'm interested to know if this (the availability of sites like eBay and Craigslist) have affected your ability to negotiate deals on-site at yard sales. Anyone with a similiar experience?
